Customise the widget
Match the chat widget to your brand — colours, position, launcher style, greeting text, avatar and offline behaviour.
Updated August 7, 2026
The default widget is deliberately neutral. Ten minutes of configuration makes it look like part of your site rather than something bolted on, and that visibly affects how many people open it.
What you can change
| Setting | Notes |
|---|---|
| Brand colour | Used for the launcher, agent message bubbles and buttons. Use your primary brand colour, not a lighter tint — contrast is what makes the launcher noticeable |
| Position | Bottom-right or bottom-left, with an offset so it does not cover a cookie banner or a sticky cart |
| Launcher style | Icon only, or icon with a text label. A label converts better on sites where chat is not expected |
| Greeting message | The first thing a visitor sees when the widget opens |
| Agent avatar | A real photo outperforms a logo, consistently |
| Offline behaviour | What happens when no agent is online |
Full customisation (colours, advanced styling, branding removal) is available from the Professional plan upward; the Starter plan includes basic customisation. See pricing.
Writing a greeting that works
The default “Hi! How can we help?” is fine and forgettable. Better greetings are specific to the page and set expectations:
- On a pricing page: “Questions about which plan fits? Ask away — we usually reply in a couple of minutes.”
- On a product page: “Not sure about sizing or delivery? Happy to check.”
- Out of hours: “We’re offline right now, but leave your email and we’ll reply first thing.”
The pattern is: name the question they are probably having, then say how quickly you will answer.
Position and collisions
The most common visual bug is the widget sitting on top of something else — a cookie consent bar, a sticky add-to-cart button, a back-to-top arrow. Check on mobile specifically, where the bottom of the viewport is crowded. Adjust the offset rather than moving the widget somewhere nobody looks.
Offline mode
When no agent is online, the widget should stop implying a live reply. Configure it to collect an email address and a message, and make sure that lands somewhere a person actually reads — see connect your support email.
Removing our branding
Branding removal is available from the Professional plan. On the Starter plan a small EasyChatDesk credit appears in the widget.
Next: proactive triggers — opening the conversation instead of waiting for it.
